'Colonel Henry Harford served as a young man in the Zulu War of 1879, and was a staff officer to Commandant Lonsdale of the 3rd Regiment, Natal Native Contingent.'In his journal Harford, who was with Lord Chelmsford's column, tells of the initial skirmishes of the war and of the disaster at Isandlwana and the defence of Rorke's Drift.
