The name chosen, KIrkia, is to commemorate Sir John Kirk (1832 -1922) who accompanied Livingstone as botanist on his expedition to the Zambezi, Victoria Falls, Shire Valley, Lake Nyasa and the Rovuma River betweem 1858 and 1863.
