Editor's note.'In 1782 the East Indiaman the Grosvenor was wrecked off the Natal Coast. A search was made for survivors but none was found. Rumours, however, persisted that there were, in fact, survivors living among the Kaffirs and in 1790 an expedition was raised to search for them. Professor Kirby gives an account of this expedition; who planned it and why; who joined the party, etc. He gives the Dutch text and the English translation of Van Reenan's Journal kept during the expedition.'
