144 + 80 pages nominal roll, oblong 4to, folding map as frontispiece (with the various attempts to pursue De Wet marked in colour), 2 sketch maps, 27 plates of photographic illustrations, recent half brown morocco with brown cloth sides, some foxing in the text, overall a very good copy, inscribed 'To Daphne from R.L.B.' on the half title page
Embarkation at Liverpool and the voyage out is followed by a description of the first year of the war. Thereafter the experiences of the eight squadrons comprising the regiment are dealt with separately. The 3rd I.Y. served all over S.A. but predominantly in the Cape Colony in the second half of the war. The marvellous photographs used to illustrate the volume are the publication's strong point. Many of these photographs were never published elsewhere and they are an outstanding record of the campaign. The nominal roll includes officers, N.C.O.'s and men.
