From the Author's Preface:'This Grammar has been considerably enlarged and amended, and in some cases has been re-written, for the present edition (the first edition was published by the Ekukanyeni Mission Press in about 1859). But the numbering of the articles has been adhered to as nearly as possible throughout, in order that it may by used in connection with the 'Three Native Accounts of the Bishop of Natal's Journey to Zululand,' which has been prepared expressly for the use of persons beginning to study the Zulu Language, with translation and explanatory notes, in which references are made throughout to the Grammar.'
