The Battalion joined Lord Roberts' force at Ramdam in February 1900 and took part in subsequent operations to the fall of Pretoria. In the Transvaal the 2nd Batt. engaged in column work and garrison duties mainly in the south-western sector. The Borderers were the main part of a detachment forced to surrender at Modderfontein, of which action a full account is given. The record includes a summary of services of the Mounted Infantry sections, lists of casualties, deaths from disease, names of officers on active service and a list of honours and awards gained.'
